This is not a lease, but more simply, a license. It does not create a legal interest in land.
A license has its benefits in that the property owner is effectively saying “OK, you can occupy my property for a while, but I can interrupt at any time and ask you to leave.” To a property owner, the benefit of a license is that it is mostly easier to exercise control over the tenants. A further advantage is that the high costs of solicitors can be avoided.
